Or so said Pat Robertson and he said GOD told him so.
While I respect Pat and honor GOD, I didn't need him to tell me that socialism is coming soon to the U.S. of A. We have had that since FDR introduced "The New Deal," which many economists today will tell you was/is a huge failure. Public works projects just don't get you out of a recession/depression because as any fifth grader can tell you when the project ends everyone ends up back on unemployment. Sure your unemployment numbers go down in the short run, but they spike back up within a year or so. I would hope Obama has someone telling him that, of course I know he won't listen.
Obama like most politicians look for short term gain to appease the masses, however, looking short term won't fix a damn thing. Forward thinking politicians with common sense don't appear to be in the current crop of Representatives. What is needed today is someone, anyone to tell the emperor he has no clothes. I do it all the time with letters and e-mails to those elected baboons, as I'm sure many of you do, but, for whatever reason it falls on deaf ears. In fact, the last letter I sent to our senior senator, Carl Levin, was one about my concern that Obama was not a legal citizen of this country and therefore was not eligible to take the oath of office and I recieved a reply thanking me for my interest in the inauguration. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!
The reasons socialism has taken hold in this country are many. Children being dumbed down in government run schools and told how government is good. Immigrants who arrive in this country from socialist enclaves and think that they are entitled to goods and services, and not wanting to assimilate to the American way of life. And courts with activists judges who think it is THEIR job to provide for the masses are just a few reason, but there are more.
It will be hard to turn the tide back to a free and open society as politicians will use every means at their disposal to scare the bejeezsus out of people in order to maintain their power. WE THE PEOPLE have only two short years before another election. We must sweep Congress clean of those who would sell out our liberty and freedoms in order to stay in office. Now, more than ever we must THROW THE BUMS OUT!
VIVE LIBERTE'
Vote Libertarian!

Mark, I hate to say this, but the only reason why Pat hears God is because people like you listen to Pat. God is actually Pat's alter-ego. If nobody listened, Pat would realize that he's just like the rest of us and has wishes and fears that present themselves to our conscious minds as revelations.
As for his 'revelation', it's patently obvious that he's going to be against Obama's administration no matter what it does. There's always going to be an opposition to whomever is in power, and as such, Pat's job is to put doubt into the minds of those who listen to him. If anybody has destroyed this country's prestige and power in this world, it's been Dubya, and nobody can argue that it's been a very bad time the last 4 years, if not 8. Of course, the economic problems can be laid upon Saint Ronny's doorstep, and his deregulation of Wall Street and the unfettering of that deadly sin, Greed. It's never been good enough to be rich, or even to have enough. As the apes we are, we're prone to fits of greed when it comes to food; natural resources; and territory. Enough has never been enough for us, as we consume everything in sight. So, now that the world's economy rests upon our innate greed, the downturn in the economy has caused us to re-awaken an older-yet; mammalian trait - hording. We are not spending with abandon anymore, and are now saving our acorns for the coming economic winter. This is seen as damaging to the present world order because they see their position in the higherarchy as falling to someone who's going to attempt to make their way of life harder and more costly. Well, as far as I can see it, they're simply afraid of change, which is an innate fear of all living things, since change brings about extinction. But is also brings new adaptations, which is what is necessary now that the innevitable is upon us. Whether we blame it on 9/11 or Clinton or the vast left/right wing conspiracy, it's reality, and if we do nothing to adapt, we're destined for the scrapheap of history. Empires don't live forever, and our's will go by the wayside eventually, so unless we adapt to the changing world order, we will hasten that trip to the wayside.
I think that until we see how things turn out, we can't possibly make direct statements one way or the other about whether or not Obama is going to 'ruin' this country. It's already been dealt a damaging blow by the current administration with very little help from Obama, so letting him try to fix things isn't going to ruin it further.
As for writing to our representatives, I've done that, and have had the same results you had. It's unusual for politicians to actually hear from intelligent people with real concerns. They also don't read their own mail. The staffers that are hired to do so are so overwhelmed with the volume of mail that they only look for items that are from those whom their boss wants to hear from, and the rest of us get form-letter responses. I guess it's enough that we've let off some steam and have voiced our opinions on the matter at hand, but those opinions are simply tallied in one column or another and that's all those opinions amount to, a slash in either the pro or con column on a legal pad. It's the result of progress and natural selection. In order to maintain the status quo, the organism, namely, the representative, only listens to those who've got power, and in so doing, is selected to remain a viable organism by the same process that decides which of us succeeds and which don't. Until some unforseen natural disaster occurs to wipe out those organisms that are currently in control of the eco-system, those of us who are simply eeking out an existence will remain in our present status. What form said disaster takes is up to nature. We certainly aren't going to be able to engineer a disaster of those proportions on our own, unless we are united and of one purpose. Obama's victory was one such result of disaster raining down upon those who thought they were able to sustain the status quo by simply being simple. New ways of financing a campaign were implemented to great success. Whether or not you like Obama, you have to hand it to his team for pulling off one hell of a victory over an extremely well run campaign by Hillary, and against a party that for all intents and purposes is on its way to extinction. If Palin truly is the GOP's nominee in 2012, Obama will win in a greater landslide than the one he just pulled off. It could sound the deathnell for the GOP as a viable organism in politics.
